In BEHIND THE COUNTER: THE
PHARMACIST, a podcast starring Dan
Schneider from the smash hit NETFLIX
doc-series, THE PHARMACIST, you'll hear
the untold story that wasn't on NETFLIX -
directly from Dan himself.
You'll witness unheard details critical
to the success of Dan's quest to find
his son Danny's killer and bring him to justice.
You'll hear private recordings with all the
people tasked with finding Danny's murderer:
the cops, the DA, the coroner, and the
witness. Dan's quest was unrelenting, and
nearly cost him his life, his marriage, and his
sanity. Dan will discuss - with the people on
those tapes - why the investigation went
so wrong, and how he ultimately found the
murderer, with little to no help from
everyone who was supposed to help him.
The podcast will offer a glimpse into the
controversial decisions Dan made, via
hundreds of audio recordings that helped,
and hindered, Dan on his epic journey.
NETFLIX's THE PHARMACIST doc-series
streamed to millions worldwide, turning
Dan Schneider into a recognizable name,
illuminating his heroic quest and shining
a spotlight on the NOPD, and finally, the
country's opioid epidemic. Dan's story
has been featured in NEWSWEEK, TIME,
THE WASHINGTON POST, ESQUIRE, and
other national and international publications.
He's appeared on CBS NEWS, THE TAMRON
HALL SHOW, and is a featured TEDX speaker.
But now, in BEHIND THE COUNTER, he's
ready to share his story with you - his
way. Join him, and you'll get to hear how
an ordinary man went to extraordinary
measures for justice and his launch of a
new battle against Big Pharma to combat
the opioid epidemic through his organization,
TUNNEL OF HOPE.
2 | DAN'S STORY
Follow along with Dan in his own words
SEASON 1:
It's April of 1999, 2:00 AM. A knock at the
door wakes Dan Schneider and his family.
Two police officers deliver terrible news.
Dan's son is dead. Shot and killed in an
attempt to buy crack cocaine. The stigma
makes Dan's son a criminal in the eyes of
the police, and Dan realizes that they will
never find his son's killer - so he takes on
the case himself.
He walks the streets of the Lower 9th
Ward in New Orleans, and meets total
resistance from a frightened population, in
an area where criminals and drug dealers
reign. But Dan is persistent. He makes a
deal with God. If his son's killer is brought
to justice, his mission to combat addiction
and those who enable it will become his
life's work. Dan finally uncovers a witness -
the only person who can fill in the missing
pieces - and Dan finds the killer.
SEASON 2:
Returning to work as a pharmacist, Dan
stops filling prescriptions for opioids -
most linked to one local doctor. Dan knows -
it's his turn to fulfill his promise.
For a second time, Dan begins his
own investigation. Armed with a video
camera and total conviction, Dan records
everything and his persistence prevails. The
corrupt doctor is arrested, convicted, and
has her medical license revoked.
But Dan's quest continues...
3 | THE ELEMENTS OF THE
PODCAST / VIDEOCAST
In BTC, the standard audio podcast will consist of Dan guiding us through his journey, using
unexposed materials not seen (or heard) in the docuseries. The podcast will also have a
companion videocast, produced with the same materials discussed in the podcast allowing
viewers to see the evidence for themselves.
In the videocast we will see Dan recount the journey, disclosing hidden evidence from
investigation files that no one else has seen, we will hear audio recordings Dan gathered
in the field on his quest, and we will see video that Dan recorded on his mission to take
down the pill mill.
We will utilize a multi-camera setup for in-house interviews as well as conducting Zoom
interviews, combining main screen back-and-forth, split-screens, picture-in-picture
and other visual methodology to further entice and engage an audience that will be
enthralled to see a much more polished and visual tandem piece, rather than the normal
"studio only" videocast most podcasts present.
